Typo Domain Names - Good or Bad or Both?

May 29, 2010 1 Comment

What are your thoughts on Typo Domain Names?

A Typo domain name is a domain name that is a mis-spelling of a very popular keyword/web address (url).
Here would be a couple examples of typo domains: MySpacee.com, Facebok.com, Gooogle.com, etc.
I think you get the idea now.

I have never been a typo domainer. I do have one for sure, maybe 2. They were dumb accidents. I remember being incredibly excited when I got a popular 5 letter word in the .com, then right after the transfer, I looked at it again and said...Ahhh, THATS why it was such a bargain, lol.

I have owned thousands of domains, and I know I have regged a couple misspellings, but thet were purely accidental. Well, that is what "grace delete" is for.
So, I have never actively looked to purchase a typo domain name, but...

Do you have any Domain Names you view as Priceless?

May 26, 2010 1 Comment

Do You have any Priceless Domain Names?

I really don't mean exactly - priceless.

But you as a Domainer should know the fair Market value or thereabouts of your "priceless" domain names based on recent/previous Sales stats, CPC, Ad competition, search results, etc.  So, let's maybe say - very unreasonable pricing...  Just a domain or 2, or 5 or more that you find hard to throw a price on because your visions are pretty HUGE for them in comparison of where you see other Domain names selling for right now, you know what I mean..

Well, I am of ther belief that some domains that we own may just be so desirable now, as we are still in the infancy of the web that they are those kindof domains that we could throw a very high number on, and eventually they WILL sell. There are so many examples, but ...

Are You a Domain Addict?

May 18, 2010 5 Comments

Do You have a Domaining Addiction?

Answer these truthfully, to see if YOU are a Domain Addict.

1. What is the first thing that you do each morning?
2. How many times do you check your domain statistics each day?
3. Do you think that the off switch is an unnecessary option for your PC?
4. When was the last time that you went out with friends?
5. Do you ever turn off your instant messenger or skype?
6. How many times do you check your email each day?
7. Is proxy bidding in an auction just a euphemism for checking your bids less often?
8. Do you tuck your PC in each night (ie. check email) just before you go to bed?
9. Does sunlight hurt your eyes?
10. When was the last time you turned off your cell phone?
11. Is the installation of a wireless network a ...

.Tv Domain Sales RISE w/ Product & Keyword Names!

.TV Domain Sales RISE w/ Product & Keyword Names!

.TV marches to the beat of its own drummers as geo.TV domain names begin to play a less important role than product.TV and keyword.TV development which begin to gain in popularity.

In my humble beginnings as a .tv extension domainer, I was treated to thread after thread on forums heralding the all-important “Geo” domains and the impact that they will have on the .tv horizon. The product and/or keyword domain names in the .TV extension were literally pushed to the side as mega-geo’s were the talk of the town.

It seems, however, that while the major .tv geo’s most certainly enjoy some popularity on the domaining scene, they are not the bread and butter or the raison d’etre of the extension they were supposed to be. It seems that there are those who still stubbornly ...

VITO.TV

VITO + TV = VITO.TV

Hey everyone,

This is not ground breaking News but I just created "a Page" for myself on VITO.TV

I have no idea what the site will ever turn into, but I really had to share something with everyone.
It is a bit Ad Heavy right now, only because I have barely any content, just one video, one text entry, and one "commentable" Blog Post. I'm not sure I like all the ad's right now but I like more, rather than less for now at least.

Both of my kids are VERY musically talented. Both of them have had some pretty incredible levels of success for their young ages already. My daughter has won singing competitions, and a singing competition to get a spot in State Finals. My son has appeared on Chicago radio along side of Joe Satriani, was the poster Boy for ...

DevHub (1.3+ Million Websites ) + Gallery = TheDotStop at #1!!!

No Wordpress for The Dot Stop Domain Blog!!!

Many of my peers have been asking me why I am not using Wordpress for my Blog here.
Well to tell you the truth I suck at Development, and have a problem just figuring out how to zip a file and use the FTP, and load it into the Hosting account, and then learn the Control panel.

So, I found this DevHub mini-site easy to use, easy to create, drag and drop mini-site building platform over a year ago.
It was free and easy to do what I considered to be something I viewed as very frustrating to say the least.

Well, WordPress does have some killer plug-ins, and a whole lot of options so I actually started thinking about it.
I actually was talking with a developer who was going to create a Wordpress site for me, and had a template ...

SHOES.TV sells for $18,000 at Sedo!!!

Shoes.tv Sale @ Sedo = $18,000!!!

This is a great sale for our .TV friend RL!

The sale of Shoes.tv had 2 bidders, and stood at $15,600 for what seemed like forever, then finally there was a bit of a war, and another Product .TV domain Name makes an incredible stance today!

This should finally put to rest the debatable question of whether or not Product .TV Domain Names have any value.

Congrats on another Killer .TV Domain Name Sale!

Verisign Registry is DOWN! ???

I just went to a few different Registrars (Name.com, Enom.com, GoDaddy.com, Dynadot.com) to Register a Premium .TV Domain Name and this message pops up...

The central registry is down for maintenance; please try again later.

I have never ever seen that message before at any Domain Name Registrar.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Has anyone ever seen that before?

.ME - The Monster Extension for the ID

.ME – The Monster Extension for the ID

I remember when Forbidden Planet came out in 1956. As a kid I had heard that it was the greatest science fiction movie ever made and just counted the days until I got to see it. What I saw at that time, however, was far different from the very same movie I saw years later as an older teen and changed yet again when I actually saw the movie as an adult for its message that it was conveying.

What this has to do with the .me extension will hopefully be made clear as I attempt to untangle the knots and present the extension in a more detailed light of how this extension has similarities to the movie.

At my young and tender age of childhood my main interest was in the flying saucer and, of course, Robby, the Robot. Becoming a teenager ...

BIDO CLOSED - BIDO FOR SALE!

BIDO - R.I.P.

Wow, That sure was an abrupt ending!

Here is the message on Bidos HomePage.

"Bido is ceasing operation as of May 5, 2010. All transactions and accounts will be gracefully finalized and closed."

It is a very sad day for the Domain Industry today as Bido has abruptly decided to close its doors for good. Bido has also announced that they are selling the Company, site and all.

I have meant to do a Bido Review recently but the only reason I have not done a review on Bido, Is because I knew it would be a very long review, probably a 2, or 3 part review since they had so many features to truly cover very thoroughly.

Bido’s domain Auction house was second to none in so many ways. Bido has implemented so many features to their 1 hour domain auction house that it ...

GoDaddy Welcomes .TV back!

April 30, 2010 0 Comments

.TV is making a comeback at Godaddy!

Godaddy was the #1 Registrar of .TV Domain Names up until a year or so ago. At that time .Me was coming out and was going to be the "next big thing". Bob Parsons (Owner of GoDaddy) was way too interested with the entry of .ME into the domaining world, that he basically shunned the .TV extension completely.

GoDaddy had taken the easy .TV check box out of their multi-search Boxes, and replaced .TV with the .ME extension.

Well, ever since March 18th, 2010 when Verisign announced .TV Premium Renewal fees were gone forever on ALL .TV's regged from that point forward, Well there has been close to 1 Million dollars spent on .TV Registrations since then. Now that there is undeniable proof that .TV is is the Hottest growing extension since Verisigns price change, Well now Bob only smells that money ...

ALLTHINGS.TV – A Neighborhood Club for .TV

May 1, 2010 1 Comment

ALLTHINGS.TV - A Neighborhood Club for .TV

.

To begin with, the first thing one should realize is that the neighborhood IS NOT a forum, it is the .TV EXTENSION itself!

That being said, one can safely consider Allthings.tv as a friendly club in the .tv neighborhood.

Allthings.tv, comprised of and headed by a corps of older and experienced .tv aficionados, is a forum, a club of sorts, in the .tv neighborhood where the members inside are free to bounce opinions and suggestions regarding the extension to like- minded members.

It’s a neighborhood hangout of sorts where its members are free to enjoy the company of a true youthful and enterprising .tv community. Because it is in the .tv neighborhood the rules of engagement are rather different here than for other extensions. It is much looser and ideas and brainstorming are more creative as members are encouraged to ...

.NET versus .TV ???

April 28, 2010 1 Comment

As we are all well aware of last month Johntv sold Italy.tv for $19,000.
Right now Rick Latona (2008 Domainer of the year)  is having his TRAFFIC Milan Auction. As I have been scanning the Domain List for the auction, I see that Italy.net is in this auction and the listing reserve on Italy.net is $20,001.

The current pre-bid for Italy.net is only at 9750 Euros right now. The Milan Traffic Auction is a high profile aution, and there will be a lot of the "Big Dogs" there looking at this Killer Geo.tv which is a much bigger stage than Italy .tv was on.

My question is will Italy.net sell for more than Italy.tv just sold for, or will it be left unsold because it didnt meet its reserve?

In order to have the question answered of .net versus .tv It ...

Verisign Price Increase July 1, 2010!

April 24, 2010 0 Comments

Verisign Price Increase - July 1, 2010

The Price of Domaining is going up on July 1, 2010

Here is a friendly tip/reminder to each and every Domainer/Developer out there.  The time to clean up our Domain Portfolio's is now, before July 1, 2010, because the prices of ALL .com, and .net domains are going up, up, up.

This is the perfect time to Manage our Domain Portfolios with some sales of domains that we really aren't attached to, and the absolute best time to grab some cheaper multi-year renewals of Domains we have serious plans for, because in another 2 months should we still have the same plans, why pay more then when we could save money now?

-

VeriSign®

_

On July 1, 2010, VeriSign®, the registry for .COM and .NET, will increase prices - .COM will go up 7%, and .NET by 10%. The increase will ...

Ten Commandments for New Domainers

April 23, 2010 0 Comments

The Dot Stop is excited to announce it's very first stolen Blog Post Victim,

(Michael of F5Domains.com). I stole his Killer Blog Post,

and now my Blog is so much better because of it!

See, now who says crime doesn't pay?

The Ten Commandments

Here’s ten rules to remember, refer back to these before you register your names.

1. Do not register anything which is trademarked. If it is, it’s worth $regfee and you’re probably looking at either a potential lawsuit or UDRP claim. Unless you have some major, major reason why – stay away from trademarks.

2. Say your name out loud. Say it with any punctuation or numbers you put in there – ie. domain-example1.com will be “domain hyphen example one dot com”. If it’s unwieldy, not pronounceable, or you stumble over it, it’s probably worthless.

3. Stay away from exotic ...

ALEXA - Just Like Watching Paint Dry!

April 22, 2010 1 Comment

Alexa is a useful resource for people to discover information about websites. You can use Alexa to discover how popular a site is. Alexa monitors website traffic daily, and ranks each website daily.

So, I had this domain, (TheDotStop.com) for a couple of years now. I think about a year ago, I threw a crazy mini-site up here, and created one lonely blog post. I got a few comments, then my A.D.D. kicked in, and I got bored with it, and eventually forgot about it.

I found this blog again recently, about 2 weeks ago, and decided I was gonna give it a real try this time sine I have a lot more to say now. Well,  I started loading it with clickable links of some of the sites I frequent. Alexa is one of them. I logged into my Alexa account and check my traffic/WorldWide ...

How to get money into your PayPal account fast!

April 17, 2010 0 Comments

Today just like any other day, I had to buy another killer Premium .TV domain name. I promised myself not to use a credit card anymore for any more purchases, so I am only going to use my PayPal account. Well, I was short by about $95. I absolutely hate when that happens!

How do you get money into your Paypal acccount fast? Well I have had a Paypal account for about 7 years or so, and the only way I have ever been able to add money to it was by selling something, and having a PayPal member sending it immediately to my account, or the only other way I tried before, was linking a Bank account to it, and sending money from the bank account directly to my PayPal account. I tried that a couple times and that process always took 5 days. Very Frustrating. Why does it ...
